River Gee Eyes Community College -- Superintendent

By Prince Nagbe

FISH TOWN, April 30 (LINA) - River Gee County Superintendent Daniel G.  Johnson has disclosed that plans are underway to establish a community college in the county.

He said the county administration has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Don Bosco, providing 100 acres of land to construct the college.

He made the disclosure to Information Minister Lewis Brown during a one-day visit the Minister paid to the county, as part of his ongoing development impact assessment tour of Maryland, Nimba, Bong, Grand Gedeh and River Gee counties.

Johnson said the county administration has also given 25 acres of land to the Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC) to build a technical institute that will instill basic technical and vocational skills in youths of the county.

According Superintendent Johnson, River Gee is one county that does not have a tertiary institution, leaving many of the young high school graduates to travel to other counties to seek higher education.

According to him, the county administration is offering scholarships to high school graduates from River Gee to study nursing so that upon graduation they can fill the huge gap in the county’s health sector.
