Police Nab 2 For Gang Rape

By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Cape Mount Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, April 23 (LINA) -The Liberia National Police (LNP) Grand Cape Mount County detachment has arrested two men for allegedly gang raping a woman.

The police identified the two men as Boima Passawe and Boikai Paasewe, who are currently in detention at the Robertsport Central Prison awaiting court trial.

According to police, the incident occurred recently in Ducor Bongoma Town in Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County, when a woman was investigated by the elders for allegedly flouting the traditional law that forbids a woman insulting residents.

The woman was found guilty and fined L$1,500, but she refused to pay on grounds that the investigation was biased.

Following her refusal to pay the fine, the elders requested all women and non-members of the town to go indoors, claiming that the “country devil” was expected in the town.

When the people went indoors, two men jumped on the woman, dragged her to a nearby football field and allegedly raped her.

Police later arrested the men.
