USAID To Help Restore Power To Gbarnga City
By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, April 21 (LINA) - Bong County authorities are working closely with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other partners to restore electricity to Gbarnga, Bong County.

According to the county’s Development Superintendent Anthony Sheriff,
a USAID assessment team last week visited the county and announced the completion of an assessment of the city, promising to make interventions that will restore electricity to Gbarnga.

Already, USAID has earmarked a US$7 million for a mini-hydro to be built at the Kpatawee Waterfall to provide electricity to towns and villages around the Waterfall, as well as the Cuttington University, Phebe Hospital and the Central Agriculture Research Institute in Suakoko District.

Sheriff has, meanwhile, observed that though the county has spent US$28,000 from the County and Social Development Funds to jump-start the provision of electricity to Gbarnga, the city continues to remain in darkness.

He told LINA Monday that under a five-year contractual agreement signed following the 2012/2013 County Sitting in November 2012 between the county and the DEOTA Electricity Corporation to provide constant supply of electricity to
the city, not much has been done.
