KRTTI Reopens After Mass Protest

MONROVIA, April 16 (LINA) -The Kakata Rural Teacher Training Institute (KRTTI) in Kakata, Margibi County Wednesday reopened its doors after more than a month of closure.

The Ministry of Education shut the doors of the institute on March 9, 2014 due to disturbances by students and faculty members on the campus demanding the removal of Director Precious Brownell-Dennis.

Director Brownell-Dennis told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) that classes will resume after the Easter Break, but the administrative and teaching staff would be preparing for the resumption of classes.

Acting Information Minister Isaac Jackson on Tuesday told LINA that government was keen to institute measures that would ensure there would be no recurrence of the problems that led to the closure of the institute.

KRTTI is one of three teacher training institutes set up by government to ensure that instructors entering the classrooms receive the minimum, basic teaching skills to perform their duties.
